Hello and welcome to a new school year at General Myer Elementary. My name is Heather Clay and I’m excited to be your child’s teacher this year!
Third grade is a pivotal year in both reading and math. Students are transitioning where they are no longer learning to read, but instead are reading to learn (as well as mastering foundational skills in math). I am here to do all I can do to make your child successful as they continue their excitement for learning. I look forward to being part of a team as your student embarks upon this memorable journey.
A little about myself:
I have eight years experience teaching 3rd grade here in southern Arizona (this is my first year at General Myer). I have a masters degree focused on reading and literacy from Capella University, a teaching certificate from the University of Arizona, and a bachelor's degree in government from Campbell University. My husband and I have eight children (we adopted six from the foster care system) and two wonderful granddaughters.
As a retired Master Sergeant, my family and I have had the opportunity to travel to many countries and I am excited to bring some of the culture and experience into the classroom. More importantly, I understand the challenges military families face and strive to build a strong sense of community, love for learning and respect within the classroom.
I look forward to an incredible year of learning and discovery! Please feel free to contact me anytime.
